Key leader for the merchandise and planning team, to maximize sales and ensure profitability of all Media & Entertainment Groups retail outlets and internet by purchasing, planning and analyzing merchandise assortments and promotional activity. Ensure that merchandise meets with consumer expectations: considering brand positioning, design and pricing.


  • Responsible for leading the research, selection, and purchasing of merchandise for a compelling and profitable assortment for all stores. Develop merchandise strategies that align to company brand, and pricing that maximize sales and inventory turn. Develop test strategies for new business and promotional ideas.  Partner with Business Manager/Planner on sales, inventory quantities and markdowns.   Stay up to date on current merchandise and market trends.
  • In partnership with the Allocation/Replenishment Specialist, Maintain in stock position for all bestselling inventory items through planning and forecasting. Manage replenishing transfers and returns through the allocation specialist. Develop seasonal, store and class sales plans and promotional activities.
  • Key leader Liaison to Finance and IT on all retail merchandise reporting. Manage file maintenance to support the procurement cycle in an organized and secure manner, including vendor setup, SKU setup and product information. Work with team to resolve any order issues and arrange for timely returns and/or markdown strategies.
  • Foster relationships with vendors to negotiate best price, maximize sales and profitability, markdown allowance, terms and shipping cost to improve cost of goods sold. Perform vendor analysis including sales, profitability, turn, operations and markdowns. Manage third party vendor relationships
  • Analyze and strategize profitability and product assortments, maintaining/exceeding corporate margin strategy. Plan, review and update the open-to-buy.  Contribute to strategic and long-term planning. Use analytical thinking skills to identify potential problems and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Assist with training and product knowledge of Store Management and employees. Provide Stores and Managers with appropriate merchandising, store strategies, management and reporting tools to insure performance objectives are achieved. Assist in customer service for both the Retail employees and our Guests.  Train and develop Buyers, Planner, Merchandise Assistant.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Receiving to ensure proper and timely billing and invoice payment.
  • Manage the daily activities and performance of Buyer, Business Manager/Planner Merchandise Assistant.
  • Lead and Manage merchandise product timelines in coordination with Product Development to ensure timely merchandise sets and transitions
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • College degree and relevant work experience required.


  • Minimum 5 years previous retail buying experience required and 2+ years of retail merchandise leadership roles.  (DMM, Sr. Buyer) Gift shop and multiple category purchasing (apparel, gift, music, tabletop, etc) preferred. 
  • Superb computer skills including experience with retail purchasing systems, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, Ability to foster vendor partnerships and to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and travel to trade shows as needed.  
  • Capable of working without direct supervision. 
  • Retail experience required.
