Overview

Ensure that project goals are accomplished and in line with business objectives.  Works as a liaison between Information Technology, other business entities (including all levels of management) and contracted vendors to manage projects and programs while ensuring they are delivered within the approved timeline, scope, and budget. Manages a portfolio of complex projects and programs (including inter-project dependencies) with substantial budget(s) from the planning phase through transfer of ownership with accountability for tracking all aspects of activities including but not limited to status, tasks, expenses, risks, issues and project deliverables. Develops, maintains and augments Ryman HP project management methodology including toolkits, techniques and forms, as well as, mentoring and training programs for internal and contracted Project Managers.    

Responsibilities

  • Consults with the project sponsor to quantify project goals, identify critical success factors, and manage the project scope, deliverables, acceptance criteria and deliverables.
  • Manages large project/program teams and financials to meet the timelines and financial commitments associated with work.  Responsible for identifying and scheduling project deliverables, milestones and required activities and tasks.  Assign duties, responsibilities and scope of authority to project personnel.  Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle and confer with project staff to outline work plan.  Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.  Review status reports prepared by project personnel, and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Review & Analyze project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements and allotment of available departmental resources to various project phases.  Establish work plan and staffing for project activities, iterations or phases, and arrange for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.  Review/approve work plan of external service provider or consultancy contracted to execute project.
  • Conduct risk assessment and mitigation.  Proactively identifies risk associated with all aspects of the projects/programs.  Develops mitigation measures and contingency plans if risks materialize as issues. Analyzes risk events thoroughly to effectively identify actions required and impact.
  • Accountable for development of change requests for approval by appropriate key stakeholders when scope, timeline or financials alter from approved forecasts.
  • Implement project communication plan.  Develops, communicates and reviews project/program work plans, strategy, milestones, communication plans and scope definition documents.  Facilitates meetings and develops communications for all levels of management including managers, directors, vice presidents, general managers and chief officers.  Conduct post project satisfaction surveys, gate reviews and lessons learned assessments to identify future best practices.
  • Act as a coach to junior project managers, executives and others who need assistance and advice regarding project management practices.  Develop PM training plans and facilitate training to the IT department. Assist in the succession plan development of the project managers.
  • Establish standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation. Recommends/develops project management strategies, systems, processes and enhancements to improve efficiency of the PMO, including Portfolio Mgt., templates and toolkits.  Continuously benchmark project management performance to identify improvements and achieve higher capability maturity in PPM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and requested.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business information systems (IS), computer science or related field, or equivalent related IT experience. MBA in IS or other master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible IT experience, with sensitivity and commitment to business problem solving
  • Five years successfully managing complex and risky projects
  • Five or more years of business unit-facing experience, with sensitivity and commitment to business problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams
  • Distinctive blend of business, IT, financial and communication skills, as this is a highly visible position with substantial impact
  • Knowledge of project management methodology and experience or familiarity with major defined PM approaches (for example, PMI, waterfall or agile)
  • Significant knowledge of project planning/scheduling tools (for example, Microsoft Project), with solid track record of practical application
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; expertise in setting and managing customer expectations
  • Effective influencing and negotiating skills in an environment where this role may not directly control resources
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence
  • Ability to support a tactical resource plan by mapping future demand to forecast project completions in the project portfolio
  • A background in the entertainment and/or restaurant industries is highly desirable.
  • Experience in technology implementation within a construction project is a plus
  • Flexibility to travel as necessary

Licenses/Certifications:

  • PMP certification highly desired.  Scrum/Agile certificates encouraged
