  • Overview

    Maximize sales and ensure profitability of all Media & Entertainment Groups retail outlets and internet by purchasing, planning and analyzing assigned merchandise assortments and promotional activity. Ensure that merchandise meets with consumer expectations: considering brand positioning, design and pricing.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the research, selection, and purchasing of merchandise for a compelling and profitable assortment for assigned categories. Develop merchandise strategies that align to company brand, plan pricing that maximize sales and inventory turn.  Test new item ideas.  Partner with Business Manager/Planner and Replenishment/Allocations Specialist on inventory quantities.  Stay up to date on current merchandise and market trends.
    • In partnership with the Allocation/Replenishment Specialist, Maintain in stock position for all bestselling inventory items through planning and forecasting. Present markdown strategies to Sr. Buyer. Partner with Sr. Buyer and Business Manager/Planner to develop seasonal, store and class sales plans.
    • Utilize systems and reports to maximize sales & profits.  Manage file maintenance to support the procurement cycle in an organized and secure manner, including vendor setup, SKU setup and product information. Assist in keying orders and monitor order status and sales on a daily basis.  Resolve any order issues and arrange for timely returns and/or markdown strategies.
    • Foster partnerships with vendors to negotiate best price, to maximize sales and profitability, markdown allowance, terms and shipping cost to improve cost of goods sold.  Partner with Business Manager/Planner to perform vendor analysis including sales, profitability, turn, operations and markdowns.
    • Analyze and strategize profitability and product assortments, maintaining/exceeding corporate margin strategy.  Review and update the open-to-buy.   Use analytical thinking skills to identify potential problems and develop appropriate solutions.
    • Assist with training and product knowledge of Store employees.  Provide Stores and Managers with appropriate merchandising, store strategies, management and reporting tools to insure performance objectives are achieved. 
    • Partner with Product Development to ensure timely implementation of new merchandise sets
    • Assist in managing the priorities of the daily activities for the Merchandise Specialist.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • College degree and relevant work experience required.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years previous retail buying experience required.
    • Gift shop and multiple category purchasing (apparel, gift, music, tabletop, etc) preferred. 
    • Superb computer skills including experience with retail purchasing systems, spreadsheet and database software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong analytical and ability to foster vendor partnerships, work flexible hours as needed.
    • Ability to multi-task and travel as needed to trade shows.
    • Capable of working without direct supervision.
